Tanisha Bowman is a native of Youngstown, Ohio where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in June 1994. She enlisted into the Delayed Entry Program with the US Army in April 1994 as a Motor Vehicle Operator and following graduation she officially took her oath to serve in August 1994. She completed Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Ft Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft Leonard Wood in Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. During her enlistment, she was assigned to 724th and 703rd Main Support Battalions at Ft Stewart, Georgia and 524th Main Support Battalion, 25th Transportation Company in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. While serving on active duty, she earned and was awarded 2 Army Commendation Medals (ARCOM), 2 Army Achievement Medals (AAM), 2 Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, 2 Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver Bar, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge. Her military education includes the successful completion of the Motor Transport Operators Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Bus Drivers Course, Airlift Planners Course, and Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course. Her deployments include locations in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Thailand. Ms. Bowman received an Honorable Discharge in August 2001. Ms. Bowman obtained an associate degree in Applied Science with a major in Medical Secretarial Science in December 2005.

Ms. Bowman began her career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in September 2006 at the Youngstown Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Youngstown, Ohio (VISN 10) as a Patient Care Services Assistant operating as a preregistration clerk, operator, enrollment clerk, scheduler, and specialty care clerk. In 2008, she obtained the position as a Medical Administration Specialist with the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System at the University Drive location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (VISN 4) in the Patient Benefits Unit. Ms. Bowman continued her career, with her assignment to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina (VISN 7) as a Medical Administration Specialist operating as an Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD). During her tenure at the Dorn VAMC, she held the positions of the Chief of Patient Benefits and VTS Program Mobility Manager. Following her time in Columbia, South Carolina, Ms. Bowman transitioned to the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia (VISN 6) as the Assistant Chief for Health Administration Service where she served in this role from August 2010 until December 2017. Ms. Bowman is currently assigned to VA San Diego Healthcare System in San Diego, California at the La Jolla location, as the Deputy Chief of Health Administration Service.

Outside of her work with the VA Healthcare System, Ms. Bowman is the mother of a 17-year-old daughter and is a published author. She spends her time with her daughter who is graduating from high school this year and moving on to college.
